2018 Lexus IS: Designed to drive

Published onMarch 30 2018

First impressions are extremely important, and not just between people. A vehicle’s first impression is just as relevant, and the 2018 Lexus IS makes a solid one with exhilarating exterior looks and a design that practically screams sporty and dynamic.

While the spindle grille has been mildly polarizing, it’s definitely a winner in our books. Unique and bold, the grille makes a serious statement on the road and will have you glancing back over your shoulder each time you walk away from your Lexus IS. Bold aggressive lines make the IS look poised and ready to pounce at any moment, giving it that athletic stance.

And athletic it truly is. Three models are available, starting with the Lexus IS 300 RWD which features a 241-horsepower, 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and rear-wheel drive. An 8-speed automatic transmission is paired to the 2.0L and drivers can use paddle shifters to row their own gears if desired. Both the IS 300 AWD and IS 350 AWD are equipped with a 3.5L V6, however, each is tuned differently and the output in the 300 is 260 ponies, whereas the 350 sees that number jump to 311 horsepower. Both feature a 6-speed Super ECT automatic transmission with paddle shifters, and all-wheel drive is standard.

If the exterior look of the Lexus IS lineup isn’t sporty enough for you, you can always opt to add on the F SPORT package (there are three different levels available with different add-ons in each), that will change the front grille, add an aero package, full TFT instrument cluster, 3-spoke F SPORT steering wheel, larger 18” F SPORT wheels, F SPORT scuff plates, and adaptive variable suspension, as well.

Inside the 2018 Lexus IS lineup, you’ll discover a comfortable and roomy interior upfront and in the rear. There’s room for 5 in all models. Premium materials and aesthetically pleasing layouts of the centre stack and middle console ensure all features are perfectly at your fingertips at all times, and easy to use. A 7” display screen is standard, while a 10.3” is also available, and the Lexus Remote Touch is also standard. There’s even an available 15-speaker 835-watt Mark Levinson Surround Sound Audi system available for the true audiophile.
