Lexus turned quite a few heads at this year’s Shanghai Auto Show, also called Auto Shanghai, when it unveiled the all-new 2018 Lexus NX, the latest generation of Lexus’ hugely popular subcompact sport utility vehicle. Ever since the NX hit the market back in 2014, it has done very well with consumers who are looking for a fuel-efficient luxury SUV that is also fun to drive and practical.

That’s exactly what you get with the new 2018 Lexus NX, along with a more dynamic design, more comfort, and a more ergonomic cabin.

A revamped design for the 2018 Lexus NX

The 2018 Lexus NX has been completely redesigned both inside and out. It features a more aggressive design up front that will make it even more noticeable on the road, but it is also more aerodynamic which means that it will be quieter and more efficient. Unique features like the triple projector headlights which are directly inspired by the Lexus LC flagship model allow the new 2018 Lexus NX to stand out even more.

Inside, buyers get a new 10.3-inch center screen that replaces the previous 7-inch unit. The layout has been simplified in order to make everything easier to use, and rear passengers now get their own climate controls. There is even a new foot-activated power tailgate that will be particularly useful if your hands are full and you have stuff to put in the back.

“Even if it can’t be immediately seen, an acute attention to details, such as the way the stitching of materials create a subtle pattern, can be felt spiritually to make a difference to the customer. That is the essence of the TAKUMI way that elevates the entire construction of a Lexus,” said Takeaki Kato, the Chief Engineer of the NX.

Two engines for the 2018 Lexus NX

The 2018 Lexus NX will offer two versions at launch: the Lexus NX 300 which replaces the NX 200t, and the hybrid 300h model. Both are fuel-efficient, and both receive an upgrade suspension that improves both comfort and handling.

The Lexus NX 300 will be powered by a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that can also be found on the current Lexus 200t.

“For the new NX, we made bold refinements to the design, elevated its performance and added new features to enhance its comfort and convenience. The new NX still possesses the same elements that have made it popular in the past—a sharp design, everyday convenience and driving pleasure that will satisfy all enthusiasts—but the vehicle as a whole has evolved dramatically, as you’re bound to see and feel when you first experience it,” Kato said.
