What is Lexus F Sport?

Published on May 28 2015

If you follow the automotive industry, you may have heard about Lexus’ F Sport.

Offered on plenty of models within the Lexus range, F Sport has become synonymous with new Lexus vehicles. That said, you may still be wondering what all the fuss is about.

In simple terms, Lexus F Sport is all about offering Lexus owners a sportier personality for their vehicle. Recent Lexus models offer more aggressive design, more power, and more dynamic handling than ever before, allowing the brand to stand out even more in the market, and not just for its comfort.

F Sport is about creating a more engaging driving experience for the driver. It’s about offering packages and performance-oriented features that make the vehicles stand out in a crowd, and not just because of their good looks but also because of their performance.

Eight Lexus models can receive equipment from the F Sport range. That means that basically every Lexus model, including the CT, IS, IS C, RC, GS, LS, NX, and RX can feature the aggressive design that is the key differentiator of vehicles sporting the flying F on their body. But it doesn’t stop there. A sport suspension and Brembo brake calipers can also be included in your F Sport variant depending on the model.

Most models equipped with F Sport get larger, darker rims; a sporty-looking aerodynamic package, a different grill in many cases, and a host of changes brought to the interior. These include an F Sport steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and sportier bucket seats that feature liquid injection foam which in simple terms evenly distributes the cushioning in order to make sure there is even support across the entire seat. In other words, the leather that covers the seat is perfectly fitted to the cushion beneath it, and the driver and his or her passengers get better support and better overall comfort.

And then there is the Lexus RC F. The very definition of what an F Sport model should be, the RC F is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 467 horsepower. Yes, Lexus chose to go with a powerful V8 engine instead of a turbocharged six-cylinder unit like most of its rivals, and that makes all the difference on the road. The RC F sounds muscular and mean, and it lays its power down on the road with conviction.

Every F Sport or F model in the Lexus range shows that the Japanese manufacturer certainly knows how to build vehicles with an edge. That said, Lexus understands that most buyers also want a vehicle that is comfortable for daily use. Although F Sport vehicles have a bit more bite, they remain civil on a daily basis, and that makes them even more appealing.
